ABSTRACT
The development of human capital is determined before entering the labour market, i.e., in the education phase. Employment in the labour market is associated with the involvement of students during their studies. How the graduate decides depends on his or her individual needs. One of the options it can use to enter the labour market is active employment instruments. The aim of the paper is to assess the activities of students during their studies and their subsequent application, considering active employment instruments as one of the options in the labour market. We perceive the biggest negative fact that the students chose paid work rather than other activities that can also raise funds for them and deepen their knowledge. In the case that a graduate does not find employment, it is possible to claim that the most typical and potentially most usable is the Contribution to self-employment. This research combines a questionnaire survey of the Matej Bel University students and secondary data from the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic.

Key words: Tertiary education. Active employment instruments. Youth unemployment rate. Questionnaire survey.
